My personal favo(u)rite openings are the most aggressive ones, the ones that gets the opponent out of their comfort zone and just make the board explode! They're:

  1. The King's gambit: I like it too, because it's the first ever opening invented. It has been played by the strongest chess players in history. After 2.f4, the wick of the board is burning and a few moves later, it's already chaos! That's why It's one of my favourites.

  2. The Modern Scandinavian: When I get the Black pieces and I see e4 on the board, I immediately strike with an aggressive reply to not let my opponent get in a comfortable place early-on, with my dearly Scandinavian defense with Nf6! This opening sacrifices a pawn early and tries to transpose into wild choices for Black!

  3. The KID (King's Indian Defense): It was my principal choice against d4,c4 and Nf6 because you just give the center for White, and then strike aggressively in it! Nothing more to say, except that it's a least theoretical opening in all of chess, because you just play a setup over and over again.

  4. The Stonewall Dutch: I use this one when I was between 1600 and 1800, and it got me to a very high rating thanks to it! I liked it but I don't want to use it anymore because of the doubled light-squared control and the theory-avoiders with f3 e4.

Very interesting! I like aggressive Openings too, but sometimes it's nice to be a little more solid. I actually never thought of the Opponent's perspective, so that's probably something I will take a look at in future. (I guess thanks for inspiring me.)

The King's Gambit. That's probably the most fun (and probably the most aggressive) Opening out there. But I am not sure if it was the first ever Opening (I think the Ruy Lopez or the Italian was the first one, but I don't really know...)

The Center Counter Defense... Alright, I can see how this can be a very aggressive Opening, movin' the Queen out early and gambiting a pawn. But I've got to admit: This very much outside my comfortzone, so that's very interesting. (I once created a forum post asking for help against the Scandi - I think you replied in that thread :) )

  1. The KID (King's Indian Defense): It was my principal choice against d4,c4 and Nf6 because you just give the center for White, and then strike aggressively in it! While I love the KID and agree that it is a very aggressive Opening, I wouldn't say that it is a similar to a system: The KIA is definetely a system, the KID isn't however, although it sure looks very similar every game. Yeah, I also love it when my Opponent closes the center - that gives more chances for a crushing attack :)

  1. The Stonewall Dutch: I use this one when I was between 1600 and 1800, and it got me to a very high rating thanks to it! I liked it but I don't want to use it anymore because of the doubled light-squared control and the theory-avoiders with f3 e4.

I've got to admit: I don't really know the Dutch. Only heard, that it's quite the aggressive Opening. However, I know the Stonewall and this very solid structure is like an ideal attacking set up. A very interesting choice!

I am a little surprised that you do not seem to like the Sicilian - but then again, the Sicilian has a reputation for being a jungle of variations and lines and variations and aberrations.

But I really enjoyed your selection of Openings.

So, thanks for posting! :)
