Hope Chess Is Better Than Hopeless Chess

Are you sure the quote is Komarov's? People attribute it to Kasparov (via Carlsen).

Quotes are so weird. People just attribute them to their favorite person. Wouldn't surprize me to see Einstein said it once or twice before...

Great post!

I especially resonated with the idea of reducing noise when presenting data. However, I am a bit reluctant to use the rating of the player to filter the data as I don't find it relevant to the potential of the student.

I will have to look into that feature detection thing, too. I've been trying to implement something in that direction with the Move Assistant, but it's very primitive.

On the other hand, I could very precisely guess your rating based on the blog post, so at least some patterns I recognize :D

A good trap wins if your opponent falls into it and does not lose when he does not fall into it.
A bad trap wins if your opponent falls into it and loses when he does not fall into it.

Good point! I'll amend the blog post with my research.
