Maybe that is why modern chess at top level is so odd. The principles will get you far but it is the well timed weird moves that make the difference.

This 2. f5 reminds me of early ideas with the h-pawn that became popular with the neural engines. For example, 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 g6 3. h4 is playable as an anti-Grunfeld, with h5, h6 intended.
