Petition to add achievments to lichess

One thing I miss from the other site is the different countries I've played against. I found it fun seeing all the people I've contacted through chess around the world. As far as achievements, it was my favorite "collectible" of what they offered and it seems it would be an easier one to do.

The games themselves are the achievements.
No need for any whistles and bells.

There is no harm in adding them.
If you don't like them you can just ignore them and the people that like them can enjoy them, win win situation :)

The 'harm' is in the ongoing maintenance of them in the codebase

This is something fun and already built that might scratch the same itch

Edit - noticed this site had been mentioned in thread, but not explicitly linked.

I like the idea of satellite sites around Lichess. This way you can create some amazing things, but not burden the Lichess devs with extra stuff.

But having things on-site also make it more convenient for end users.

Well, that depends on how they are implemented. Ideally the maintenance should be minimal if there is a long-term, well-thought approach to the implementation.

Ideally, the real world and that of ideas are the same, but in the real world...

I could maybe someday imagine something premove-related. I agree that we don't want all the features, but an especially compelling feature suggested the right way by the right people at the right time with the right resources available etc. could someday theoretically happen.

I think it should be something where the coders of the community volunteer to code it. Just like how Mark Rober got his volunteer subscribers help him code the domino stacking robot.

It doesn't matter what I write, does it?

I think they should add achievments to Lichess as it will increase the community and it would just be fun. The only reason i joined Lichess so late was that i wanted to gain some chess.com achievments first. There should also be an option to remove them for people who want distraction-free chess.

dude, i agree about that, it is so boring without it
