I'd like to create a Lichess horde study to learn from my games, but it doesn't quite work. (Contrary to standard chess or chess960, where I can freely create studies from games.) I just always see an empty Chapter 1, and the selected games fail to get there. Could anyone advise me how to create it? Thanks!

Not that much. I've created a horde study on my repertoire in the meantime, using the opening explorer to see what I'd played before, where I scored well and where not. My solution isn't optimal, but creating these repertoire files helped me to perform better and to cross not only 2300, but briefly even 2400 in horde. (Another thing is that I don't remember most of those lines and refresh my knowledge only from time to time, as I did before a recent knockout event.)
