Minimal electronic or (neo-)classical, depending on mood.

I mostly listen to R & B and Pop beats by Ariana Grande and Doja Cat

I've noticed on occasion that when listening to the lyrics of songs, the act of mentally processing and responding to the lyrics would tend to cause a slight compromise in my ability to play ultra-fast in speedy bullet chess settings, i.e. 30 seconds 0 increment per side.

Similarly in a cognitive science vein, having a song stuck in one's head might interfere with the achievement of maximization of one's chess-playing ability. Having the song stuck in one's head, arguably called earworm - a term not ultra-strongly popularized, might cause interference with coordination of chess attentional orientation.

I do not listen to music when playing chess. If I like the music I inadvertently start to actually listen to it and that negatively impacts my concentration. And if it is "background music" I don't really love, then it is just a distraction (that feels like annoying background noise).

When I want to listen to music, I LISTEN to music.
