Vidit's King Walk
India's #2 marches carefully behind enemy linesFeatured is a round 3 game between Daniil Dubov and Vidit Gujrathi from the 2022 Tata Steel Masters tournament. The opening is an Italian Game where Vidit's 7th move may very well have prompted Dubov to deploy his knight to a3. Vidit exchanged his bad bishop for white's knight, justifying this trade based on Dubov's now compromised queenside structure. Central tension quickly surfaced with Vidit's king remaining in the center. A sacrifice soon thereafter by Dubov would mean Vidit's king would have to go for a walk!

Below the video I have highlighted 3 instructive positions
https://youtu.be/NNFhd8Zf3Z4
Question 1 of 3: How can white punish black's positional attempt to break the pin?
Hint: With the black king still in the center and a pin present, an opened position can be extremely dangerous.
Question 2 of 3: How can white reply if black captured on b7?
Hint: Be aware of forks, skewers, and unprotected pieces.
Question 3 of 3: Why was it imperative for Vidit to insert the check with Rd1 before playing Re5?
Hint: None
