Bobby Fischer crushes Chilean Chess Champion in 23 moves | 1960
Fischer welcomes International Master Letelier's pawn into his houseFeatured is a Round 8 game from the Leipzig Olympiad of 1960. It was played between Chilean chess champion Rene Letelier Martner and Bobby Fischer on October 24th. International Master Letelier won the Chilean Chess Championship 5 times (1957, 1959, 1960, 1964 & 1972). With 4...0-0, rather than the most popular d6, Fischer invited Letelier's e-pawn into his house. That invitation was accepted and soon Fischer would be confronted with an optically menacing white pawn center of 4. How one ought to handle such a central structure is especially valuable for chess minds who look to improve. Fischer demonstrates how to dismantle white's center, and adds double exclamation marks with his flashy final move.
